They have not yet learned the art...
Almost every college student has learned the art of padding papers so that you really say nothing while filling more pages so it looks like you're saying something. High school freshmen and sophomores generally have not learned that art yet. Recently found in a freshman paper to help him meet the word length requirement:
"This is now the end. There is not much more to say. Venus was now just explained." I...think...I...can...stretch...this...out...to...200...words... (said in straining voice as if involved in tug of war).
Some other recent bloopers:
"Henry David Thoreau wrote that quote in his book, Waldo." Can't you just see Thoreau wearing a white and red striped shirt, blue pants, and thick glasses?
"Transcendentalists were non-Conformists, which meant that they didn't agree with the Church of England, which is religion." Interdisciplinary connections can sometimes be dangerous.
More grading to come, so more bloopers to come as well...

hahaha i loved that "waldo" one. =)
Funny... I am envisioning an interesting children's book, Where's Walden? Simplify, simplify might not work well here.
where's henry david? he's in the woods. oh.
I was under the impression that the CRC is religion, not the Church of England. Have I been wrong all this time??
