Snow Day, Ice Day, Cold Day, Water Day??
All winter, I have been lamenting the fact that we had no snow days at all...and not even a remote chance of one. It snows at all the wrong times here - it starts at 10 am when it should start at 3am for optimal snow day prospects. My counterparts in Michigan have enjoyed 3...maybe 4 snow/ice/cold days. My mom even called me late Monday morning because she thought maybe I didn't have school...oh yes, we had school.
However, this morning, a water main down the street from school burst, and the city needed to turn off the water to the school. I learned that it is legal to have school with no heat (which we did last week when it was 2 degrees outside), and legal to have school with no electricity, but it is illegal to have school with no water. So, we got a water day! Yahoo!
This is even better than a snow day - absolutely no anticipation whatsoever. I have my lesson plans from today for tomorrow, I got to go out for brunch with some teachers (we didn't get out until 2nd hour, but this is the 1st time I've ever been thankful for 1st hour prep!), and now I'm home doing laundry, cleaning, cooking dinner, and grading papers...
Some things never change.
